Westminster Presbyterian Church seeks a Praise Band Director to direct all music activity at its 9 a.m. contemporary worship service each Sunday. Skills include singing and playing an instrument. Candidate must have a vibrant faith along with experience singing, playing an instrument (preferably piano) and directing singers and musicians in worship. Program year begins to focus on racism & criminal justice
Westminster’s program year theme of “Do justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly.” will resume in January when the topic of racism and criminal justice will be explored.
The six-week program will include an in-depth study of the book “The New Jim Crow” (copies are available in the office for purchase) Starting Jan. 7 and running through Feb. 11 there will be a class at every Sunday at 10 a.m., led by Robin Thompson.
In addition, members of Westminster will participate in the Martin Luther King march in Sacramento on Monday, Jan. 15.
Let’s walk together to show respect for Dr. King and solidarity with those who continue his legacy. Meet in the Westminster parking lot at 8:30 a.m. to carpool to the start of the march at Sacramento City College or just meet us there at 9 a.m. Don’t forget to wear your Westminster shirt!
And on Jan. 28 Joy Johnson with Area Congregations Together will preach at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services.
Other topics that will be addressed throughout the remainder of the program year include: economic justice/homelessness – Feb. 18- March 18; environment – April 8-29 and gender politics – May 6 - June 3.
