Popular Connecting on Wednesday series & Kerygma class to return in February

Our popular Connecting on Wednesdays (C.O.W.) series returns Feb. 21 and will run every Wednesday through Mar. 21. Join us for a light dinner and fellowship in the Club Room at 5:45 p.m., followed by classes from 6:30 – 7:30 or 8 p.m. (depending on which class you attend). We will be offering the following classes:

Creative Expression: Led by Mikel Nalley, this class is for all ages. We will explore different methods of creative expression by using exercising our God-given tools of vocal and physical expression via methods in improv acting, movement, and voice. (Class is 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Social Hall)

Peacemaking (Inside Your Own Head): Our “Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly” program year focus on public ethics has helped us faithfully live our witness to Christ out in the world. However, all this focus on public witness can sometimes leave us feeling spiritually depleted if we are not joining our social action with individual spiritual practices that refresh and calm our inner selves. Pastor Wes will lead this class, where we will learn and develop nourishing contemplative practices of centering prayer/ meditation, mindfulness, creative visualization, and lectio divina. (Class is 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in Club Room)

Kerygma: This course, titled Hosanna, will explore the main texts in all four Gospels and Paul’s writings that deal specifically with the last week of Jesus’ life and the resurrection. We will have a new resource book, so even those who have participated in the past will need to pick up a copy (suggested donation $13). Register for Kerygma after both services on Jan. 28 and Feb. 11 or call the office. (Class is 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Patio Room)

About Kerygma: The Kerygma program is phenomenal. The educational approach of its programs can be characterized as “come and let us help you discover,” rather than “come and we will teach you.” It is just that…a discovery! For example, during the course of the evening, each table is assigned topics and scriptures to discuss among themselves. Then, the table leader will present the table’s findings or interpretations to the entire class for discussion. This provides for a real learning opportunity, plus there are no assigned seats so you can sit with new people each week.
