Westminster Presbyterian Church seeks a Praise Band Director to direct all music activity at its 9 a.m. contemporary worship service each Sunday. Skills include singing and playing an instrument. Candidate must have a vibrant faith along with experience singing, playing an instrument (preferably piano) and directing singers and musicians in worship. On Sunday, May 6, we will be starting a 5-week class called Gender Politics, the final segment of this year’s adult education classes focusing on public ethics. This class will take place every Sunday through June 3 at 10 a.m. in the Club Room and concludes with Westminster’s participation in Sacramento’s Gay Pride Parade and Festival.
Here is the schedule of events:
Sunday, May 6 - Guest speakers Brian DiSarro and Tristan Josephson. DiSarro is Associate Professor of Political Science at CSUS who specializes in LGBTQ issues and Josephson is Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies (also at CSUS), specializing in queer theory and trans studies and politics.
Sunday, May 13 - First part of a three-Sunday viewing and discussion of the film Gender Revolution, produced by National Geographic and hosted by Katie Couric.
Sunday, May 20 - Continuation of Gender Revolution. After the 11 a.m. service, PWOW’s Spring Gathering will feature speaker Keyko Torres, Lead Organizer of Outreach & Education for the Gender Health Center.
Sunday, May 27 - Third and final presentation/discussion of Gender Revolution.
Sunday, June 3 - Speakers from the LGBT Community Center and the Gender Health Center will tell us about their organizations, what is happening locally, and how we as a faith community can be supportive.
Sunday, June 10 - Sacramento Gay Parade and Festival. The parade starts at 11 a.m. (you can still attend Westminster’s 9 a.m. service); Westminster will be marching in the parade and will also have a table at the festival.
