Teen Summer Service Project 2008

Westminster Youth have returned from the Sierra Service Project in Indian Valley.

Mission Trip Update:

“Let us rise up and build.  So they strengthen their hands for this good work.”
Nehemiah 2:18

Seven youth from Westminster, along with 53 other people (mostly youth) spent one week volunteering their time at Indian Valley for the Maidu Indians, through Sierra Service Project.  During the week, the youth were busy with projects that included painting, remodeling, mixing cement, building ramps, and roofing.  Along with their daily chores, kitchen patrol, port-a-potty cleanup, grounds, showers, and a whole myriad of other duties.  Everyday they woke up at 7:00 a.m. and lights out at 10:00 p.m.

It was a spiritual awakening for many and an opportunity to make new friends from Oregon, Washington, and Arizona and learn about cultural traditions.  Don and I were extremely proud of our group for their willingness to serve.  One of our homeowners made this comment, “I know I needed a new roof but I didn’t have the money, so I prayed.  And I knew God would hear me and I haven’t been let down yet.”

Thank you to our congregational family for all your support and love, you have enabled us to do God’s good work.  The youth will be preparing a presentation for the congregation on September 28.   Kyle Hargreaves, Sarah Cornett, Brandon Thweatt, Jennifer Pham, Jeffery Sisterson, Tyler Short, Allison Hyman, Don & Diana Wright
