Rev. Dr. David Thompson - Pastor, Head of Staff
Dr. David Thompson was born in England and emigrated to Canada at the age of ten. His postgraduate education was spent at the University of Toronto in the special religious studies in the environment program. In 1984, he became Pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, presiding for 17 years as the church became a major cultural center in the community.
Pastor Thompson was called to Westminster and was installed three days before September 11, 2001. Through this tumultuous time he worked with the members of Westminster to build bridges of understanding throughout the interfaith community. His leadership in matters of social justice has further strengthened our mission to the poor, homeless, and disenfranchised in the Sacramento area. Dr. Thompson also prays for the world at large every week, following the German theologian Karl Barth's admonition to “bring the Bible and the newspaper into the pulpit”.
Dr. Thompson believes there is a noticeable peacefulness in the hearts and souls of the Westminster community, and that it is a church where the love is genuine, honest and intentional.
