Thomas C. Oxtoby grew up on the campus of Bryn Mawr College, outside Philadelphia, where his father was Professor of Mathematics. He attended the 3500-member Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, where his mother served as Parish Visitor for twenty years. He graduated from Amherst College in 1971 and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1975, after spending an internship year in Clinical Pastoral Education in Amarillo, Texas.
Pastor Oxtoby was ordained as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament on June 29, 1975. He has served two churches as installed Pastor, three presbyteries as Stated Clerk, and fifteen churches as Interim Pastor. The churches have ranged in size from 83 to 1201 members and have been located in inner cities, suburbs, small cities, and towns. Tom received his original interim pastor training in 1987 with MATC and The Alban Institute, and he has pursued continuing education in conflict management, family systems thinking, and congregation based community organizing. Pastor Tom is an active presbyter and expects to be involved in the work of the Presbytery of Sacramento.
